When I heard of indigo, it appeared to be a fancy name. It had barely 4 aircrafts, with a tagline ‘Indigo to 32000 ft’. Most people did not bother to cross check the figures, but it made flying better, compared to deccan, that was little more than a bus in the air. Two years later, the low cost carrier still manages to keep its head up despite the recent spike in the fuel prices, and what ways to do that! I was reading this article on business standard, and was amazed at the details which the people focus on! A thinner coat of paint would ensure the plane is lighter! How crazy can that get? If they could, they would have made a rule of charging passengers by their weights..so the obese stand to pay more 🙂
Now that’s imagination going haywire. But yes, Indigo has proved itself as the real low cost airline. My first flight from Delhi to Kolkata was in an indigo. Since then, I have made umpteen trips to multiple places, have must say, have been satisfied!
Its about staying agile, meeting customer requirements, and keeping tab on market conditions. Add to that some innovation, that can be the competitive advantage airlines are looking for.
